Safe, Code-Compliant Whole House Rewiring for Orange County Homes
The wiring inside your walls was designed for the way people lived when your home was built. Many Orange County homes built in the 1950s, 60s and 70s still rely on original wiring that was never meant to power today’s kitchens, home offices, air conditioning, and electric vehicles.
Blanusa Electric provides complete and partial home rewiring for homeowners throughout Orange County. Our licensed, bonded and insured electricians replace outdated, damaged or unsafe wiring with modern, code-compliant systems, so your home is safer, more reliable, and ready for whatever you add next.
Whether you’re remodeling, buying an older home, or dealing with ongoing electrical problems, we’ll give you an honest assessment and a clear plan before any work begins.
Signs Your Home May Need Rewiring
Wiring doesn’t last forever. Insulation becomes brittle, connections loosen, and older systems simply weren’t built for modern electrical loads.
Common warning signs include:
- Lights that flicker or dim when appliances turn on
- Breakers that trip or fuses that blow often
- Outlets or switch plates that feel warm
- A burning smell with no obvious source
- Two-prong, ungrounded outlets throughout the home
- Knob-and-tube, cloth-insulated, or aluminum branch wiring
- Home is 40+ years old and has never been rewired
If you notice any of these, an inspection can tell you whether a repair, a partial rewire, or a whole-house rewire makes the most sense.
Outdated Wiring We Replace
Knob-and-tube wiring. Found in some of the oldest homes, it has no ground wire, its insulation breaks down over time, and many insurance companies will not cover homes that still have it.
Cloth-insulated wiring. Common in homes from the 1940s through the 1960s. The cloth sheathing can become brittle and crack, exposing conductors inside the wall.
Aluminum branch wiring. Used in some homes built in the mid-1960s to mid-1970s. Aluminum expands and contracts more than copper, which can loosen connections at outlets and switches and create overheating.
Ungrounded circuits. Two-prong outlets offer no ground path, which puts electronics at risk and removes an important layer of shock protection.
Whole House vs. Partial Rewiring
Want to learn more about these wiring types? Read knob-and-tube, cloth and aluminum wiring in Orange County homes.
Not every home needs a complete rewire. Depending on what we find, we may recommend:
- Whole house rewiring: replacing all branch circuits, outlets, switches and devices throughout the home.
- Partial rewiring: replacing wiring in specific areas such as a kitchen, bathroom, addition or garage.
- Circuit additions: adding dedicated circuits for kitchens, HVAC, laundry, home offices or an EV charger.
We’ll walk you through the options and explain the trade-offs so you can choose what fits your home and budget.
Our Rewiring Process
- Inspection and assessment. We evaluate your existing wiring, panel, grounding and circuits. (Learn more about our electrical safety inspections.)
- Clear written estimate. You’ll know the scope, timeline and price before we start. No surprises.
- Permits. We pull the required permits with your city’s building department.
- Careful installation. We run new copper wiring using access points that minimize wall openings, protect your floors and furnishings, and clean up every day.
- New devices. Grounded outlets, GFCI and AFCI protection where required by code, and new switches.
- Inspection and walkthrough. We coordinate the city inspection and walk you through the finished work.
Rewiring and Panel Upgrades Often Go Together
Many older homes still have 60- or 100-amp service or outdated panels. If you’re rewiring, it’s often the right time to upgrade your panel as well, especially if you’re planning an EV charger, heat pump, induction range or solar. Learn more about our electrical panel upgrades.
What Affects the Cost of Rewiring?
- Size and layout of the home
- Single-story vs. two-story construction
- Attic and crawlspace access
- Wall and ceiling finishes (drywall vs. plaster)
- Number of circuits, outlets and fixtures
- Whether a panel or service upgrade is needed
Every home is different, so we provide a free, on-site estimate rather than a one-size-fits-all price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Frequent breaker trips, flickering lights, warm outlets, burning smells, two-prong outlets, or knob-and-tube, cloth or aluminum wiring are all signs. Homes 40 or more years old that have never been rewired should be inspected by a licensed electrician.
Most single-family homes take several days to about two weeks, depending on the size of the home, access, and whether a panel upgrade is included. We will give you a clear timeline in your estimate.
In most cases, yes. We work room by room, restore power at the end of each day whenever possible, and keep your home clean and livable throughout the project.
We use attic, crawlspace and small access openings to run new wiring wherever possible. Some small openings are usually required, and we can coordinate patching so your walls are ready for paint.
Yes. Rewiring requires a permit and inspection from your city's building department. Blanusa Electric pulls the permits and coordinates the inspection for you.
Often, yes. If your home has an older or undersized panel, upgrading during the rewire saves time and money and prepares your home for EV chargers, new HVAC and other modern loads.
