Frequently Asked Questions
Are Federal Pacific panels illegal in California?
No. Federal Pacific panels are not illegal, and there was never a formal recall. However, because of documented concerns about breaker performance, many electricians, inspectors and insurers recommend replacing them.
Can I just replace the breakers in my Zinsco or FPE panel?
Replacement breakers do not address the underlying panel and bus bar issues, and compatible parts can be hard to find. Replacing the entire panel is usually the safer, longer-lasting solution.
How long does a panel replacement take?
Most residential panel replacements are completed in about a day, though permits, inspections and any utility coordination add time before and after the installation.
Will I need a permit to replace my panel?
Yes. Panel replacements require an electrical permit and inspection in Orange County cities. Blanusa Electric handles both for you.
